Welcome to the McGhees' Mile. Welcome to a standarbred training center that provides the finest service, amenities and location south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
We're a family owned and operated track. My wife Janis and I have more than 70 years of standardbred racing and training experience between us, and we've dedicated our lives to making the McGhees' Mile the most professional track in the business.
Our 77-acre facility has everything you need to optimize your standardbred training experience.
McGhees' Mile is home to three racetracks:
- a one-mile red clay track
- a half-mile red clay track
- and a 7/8 mile sand track.
All three are groomed regularly and kept in tiptop shape. They have to be. We dont just run the track. We train our own standardbred horses here, too.
McGhees Mile has 400 stalls, plenty of paddocks and ample barn space. We also have living quarters on-site for our extended guests.
And you can stay as long as you want. With average winter temperatures between 48 and 70 degrees, and annual precipitation about 36 inches, this truly is a year-round training facility.
More than Racing
But you dont have to harness race to take advantage of McGhees' Mile. Equine opportunities in the city of Aiken are unmatched. This Money Magazine top-ten retirement community is home to some of the world's finest polo, fox hunting, flat racing, steeplechase racing and eventing in the country. Hitchcock Woods, a 2,000-acre forest criss-crossed with horse riding trails, is less than 2 miles from McGhees' Mile.
